A carbon offset is one of the current efforts to mitigate global warming. People calculate the amount of carbon emissions they produce directly or indirectly and pay specialised companies or organisations to offset the corresponding amount through carbon reduction projects. Driven by market mechanisms, companies or organisations that develop the carbon asset will then grant the buyer verified carbon credits to prove that they have paid for removing a certain amount of carbon emissions from the atmosphere.
